Dorothy Irene (Bodnar) Gilbert

Dorothy Irene Gilbert, age 83 of Spring Lake, mercifully went to be with Jesus, Son Of The Living God and is now at peace on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Heartwood Lodge. Dorothy was born April 15, 1932 to the late Andrew and Irene (Ronning) Bodnar in Muskegon, MI. She married Donald C. Gilbert on March 31, 1951 in Muskegon. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2011. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muskegon and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Dorothy is survived by her loving family, daughters, Susan (Rick) Clark of Grand Haven, Nanci (Peter) Scott of Nunica, Patti (Michael) Grillo of Grand Haven; sons, Larry (Rita) Gilbert of Muskegon, Donald (Ella) Gilbert of Allendale, Richard Gilbert of Fruitport, William (Nancy) Gilbert of Mesquite, TX. She loved and cherished all of her 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. Surviving siblings, Barbara (Bill) Vanderstelt of Muskegon, Mary Jean (Larry) LaVigne of Muskegon, JoAnn (Ray) Perley of Muskegon, Gerald Bodnar of Fort Wayne, IN. She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Arthur, Joseph and Kenneth Bodnar and daughter-in-law, Janice Gilbert. The Funeral Mass for Dorothy will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Father Norman Droski officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, July 6, 2015 with a rosary at 7:45 pm at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
