David James Fisher
February 15, 1945 ~ September 15, 2016 (age 71) 71 Years OldDavid J. Fisher, age 71 of Grand Haven, left us on September 15, 2016 after a long journey through Alzheimer’s related dementia. He was born in Rockford, Michigan on February 15, 1945 to Ed and Ruth (Fowle) Fisher, who brought their family to Grand Haven in 1959. David graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1963, obtained his draftsman certificate from Tri-State University in 1964 and attended Northern Michigan University after serving overseas in the United States Air Force. He completed his student teaching at Peach Plains Elementary School in 1972 and spent the next 32 years teaching at the Grand Haven Area Public Schools. He is remembered by many friends, students and colleagues from Lake Hills Elementary and White Pines Intermediate schools for his laughter, wit and creativity. His time outside of the classroom was spent coaching soccer, golfing, woodworking, and with his much-loved summer paint crew of fellow teachers. He also enjoyed and was a regular attendee at Harvest Bible Chapel. David is remembered by his wife Sarah; former spouse Linda Fisher; sister Nancy (Jerry) Patterson of Honor, MI; stepdaughter Becca Clark of Grand Haven; sons Brad (Erin) and Matt (Erica) of Grand Haven, Josh (Amy) and Dan (Trisha) of Granby, Colorado; grandsons, Ryan and Andrew will also miss their grandfather. The funeral service for David will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Harvest Bible Chapel Spring Lake with Pastor Dan Cooke officiating. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4 – 8 pm on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
