Cleopha Rose Stein, age 95, a longtime resident on Belleville, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake, MI.
Cleopha was born on March 13, 1923 in Smithton, daughter of George and Margaret Hoelscher, and resided there until she was swept away by the dashing young man of her dreams, Clarence (Lee) Stein. Together they built a life and created a family with three boys, who were their greatest joy. She truly loved being a mom, and excelled at the challenge. She loved well and easily. Cleopha was a decades-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Belleville Ill. where she served as a Eucharistic minister, a Marriage Encounter Counselor, and she enjoyed the camaraderie of the quilting club. Her life was full, and her smile and sunny disposition contagious.
Cleopha is survived by a brother, William (Pat) Hoelscher of Belleville; three sons, Robert (Lynne) Stein of Bullard, Texas, Gerald Stein of Grand Haven, MI, and Joseph (Kay) Stein of Evergreen, CO; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters; a galaxy of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and friends who made her life full and her heart happy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence, in 1999.
Cleopha’s Memorial Mass will be at 1:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Belleville Ill. with Rev. Christopher Anyanwu presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Belleville.
