Arthur F. Schwartz, age 96, of Ferrysburg passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018. He was born to Frederick W. and Rose (Friedman) Schwartz on December 28, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan. Arthur graduated from the University of Michigan in 1943 with a BSE degree in chemical engineering.
Arthur was a Veteran with the US Navy Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific. After the war, in 1946 he began his career in Operations Management in the pharmaceutical/chemical industry with responsibilities in both domestic and international areas, retiring in 1991. Arthur enjoyed being with people and spent a number of years helping people as a pre-need counselor. He then worked part- time with executive placement and retail companies such as Walmart. In 1971, Arthur married the love of his life, Maryann P. Macko-Smith and often said, “I have breathed all of my life but I have lived only since Maryann.” In their younger days they traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas. He was a member of many service organizations including Holland and Michigan Jaycees, Holland-Zeeland Management Club, Holland and Muskegon University of Michigan Alumni Clubs, Maplewood to Holland Annexation Committee, and Spring Lake Rotary Club, American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28, and Grand Haven VFW SGT. Alvin Jonker Post 2326.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Scattering Garden at Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Harbor Humane Society. Arrangements by Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
