Arlene Ione Hass, age 93 of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Robbinswood Assisted Living. Arlene was born December 1, 1922 to the late Erastus “Ray” and Charlotte (Wekenman) VanHall in Grand Haven. She married Andrew Hass on February 7, 1948 in Grand Haven. Andrew passed away on October 8, 2006. Arlene worked at Grand Haven Junior High as a secretary to guidance counselors. A few of her responsibilities included taking attendance and watching over students who were ill or caught disobeying the rules. Even today, former Grand Haven Junior High students fondly remember “Mrs. Hass”. For many years she met with other retired school employees at Russ’s on every Monday of every month except for the month of December where they would meet for lunch at different restaurants. Arlene enjoyed being with family and friends. She played host for many years every Sunday for family gatherings with some lively conversation and great food. She also enjoyed shopping and family vacations, especially ocean cruising. In less than a year Arlene was able to enjoy 5 cruises when staying with her youngest son Dan and his family in Florida. She then lived with her daughter, Diane and husband Mark for three years in Grand Haven Township where she enjoyed day trips and mini vacations. She also enjoyed spending some of her days at the Little Red House in Spring Lake. Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Diane (Mark) Howard of Grand Haven; sons, Andy (Donna McKenna) Hass of Kalamazoo, Al (Barb) Hass of Grand Haven, Steve (Holly) Hass of Grand Haven, Bruce (Debbie) Hass of Spring Lake, Dan (Patty) Hass of , Longwood, FL; grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) DeBoer, Sarah (Tony) Smith, Adam (Alicia) Hass, Melanie (Mike) VerDuin, Mike (Melissa) Bont, Chris (Alicia) Bont, Shawn (Holly) Hass, Nicole (Steve) Socia, Ashley Hass and Danielle Hass; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew and Audrey DeBoer, Peter, Lily and Amelia VerDuin, Weston and Hattie Hass, Penelope Bont and Camielle Socia; sisters-in-law, Stella Humy of Grand Haven, Mary Grubham of Grand Rapids; many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, brothers, Arnold and Welby Van Hall, infant son, Michael Hass, in-laws, Joseph (Mary) Hass and sister-in-law, Josephine Seibel. The Hass family would like to thank those staff members and residents at Robbinswood Living Center who treated Arlene with kindness and made her feel at home. The funeral service for Arlene will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Moritz officiating.  Friends and relatives may meet the family from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
